Memory Stick

From PSPWiki

The PSP supports Memory Stick Duo, Magic Gate Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Duo (Magic Gate/High-speed data transfer compatible) and Memory Stick PRO Duo cards according to the manual. Currently they are available from 8MB up to 2GB.

It is unknown at this time what the maximum size Memory Stick the PSP will support. The specifications for High-speed data transfer compatible Memory Stick Duo allows for larger than 4GB cards.

Status of Memory Stick ROM devices are unknown as they are somewhat rare and nobody has posted any results on compatibility. It is assumed they will work as they have the same interface as a standard Memory Stick card except that it is read only.

Unfortunately, Sony does not make a Memory Stick to Memory Stick Duo adapter, only the reverse. A company makes a very ugly adapter which does this, and it is overpriced, as the pinouts of both are compatible and no electronics are required. The adapter is actually for a Sony Ericsson P800 mobile phone. It replaces the battery cover with a Memory Stick slot and a little ribbon cable which plugs into the Memory Stick Duo slot in the phone

This is a fairly trivial construction task involving a ribbon cable, 2 custom PCBs, a MS connector, and some rough soldering skills. The only hard part is getting the PCBs made as there isn't any electronics at all in the adapter.
