Welcome to PSPBrew.com

We are making some major changes here.  So this is the beginning.
Glow in the dark faceplates!
PSPbrew Owns

Now that's something I didn't expect to see. Maybe XCM is trying to turn the PSP into the next perfect device to hang around your neck while you go clubin' tonight? Either way this is still a cool little thing for the slim users. XCM just released their new line of glow in the dark slim faceplates. No more loosing your PSP in the dark now! Here are a list of colors that they produce:

-Pearl: Glows apple green
-Crystal Yellow: Glows bright yellow
-Crystal Blue: Glows light blue
-Crystal Green: Glows green
-Crystal Pink: Glows light yellow
-Crystal Red: Glows orange

Well of course, these faceplates use a special coating that absorbs normal sunlight (from the sun) and anywhere in the dark. It's like a solar powered rechargeable glowing battery. Leave it in your closet, and no it won't be glowing the following Friday night. Also, for once in PSP history, you don't need a homebrew capable PSP to enjoy this wonderful product!

PSPlorer V1.4

Developer pspZorba's PSPlorer is a file management app that can view the PSP's memory stick, flash directories, and UMD inserted. The newest version allows for backing up UMDs as ISOs or CSOs, as well as converting ISOs to CSOs.

Here's the changelog:

  • UMD backup in CSO format
  • File conversion from ISO to CSO
  • Transfer directories in ADHOC mode
  • File and directory properties change (access right, creation/update/access dates) (WELL it’s not really new it was present in the homebrew but not in the doc)
  • A single bug correction in the default value of the OSK virtual keyboard. The effect of the bug was that sometimes strange extra characters could be seen in the default value.

The most interesting feature, the ISO/CSO from UMD option, works quite well. After about an hour or two, the app made a CSO straight from a copy of Castlevania: the Dracula X Chronicles, which ran without any issues excluding minor lag in load times. Be sure to read the Read-me included before running, as this app can mess a few things up if you aren't careful.

PSP Kanji Learner Set 9
PSPbrew owns

Now this one intrigued me. Ever wanted to learn Kanji? Well this has to be the most perfect little homebrew app I have seen. Homebrew developer billylee8 just released his 9th set for the "PSP Kanji Learner" series. The 9th set contains over 250 Kanji characters to use daily, as well as additional lists.

The aim of the program is to utilize videos and images translated to English for us, to hopefully allow you to learn the Chinese characters used in modern day Japanese writing. If your just now starting out you will need to start with the 1st set and work your way up.

As always, you need custom firmware or some sort of way to play homebrew on your PSP to use this program. If you need any help just ask at the help forums.

MapThis! Modded version.
PSPbrew Owns.

Homebrew developer Art has just released his modified version of Deniska's homebrew app "MapThis!". MapThis! is a GPS app used in compliance with the GPS addon. This a just a modification to the original program, but added some nifty things, of which include:

-Constant autoload feature.
-HOME button can be used to exit.
-Startup Splashscreen is not shown.
-Map named "_Default" is always auto loaded at startup reguardless of config setting.

Art states that you must rename your most often used map with the name "_Default" to ensure proper autoloading. You need to have the original MapThis! v0.5.2 installed and then install this modification by replacing the Eboot.PBP file. Download links are below. As always, you must have custom firmware, or a way to use homebrew on your psp to use this program, and you can use either a phat or slim. Check the help section if you need help.

This plugin is great for slim users who don't own well, the newest of new TV sets, and still want to play their games on their TV screen. Music PRX for 3.90 M33(Music to my PSP's Speakers)

Music to my psp's speakers

Well for everyone who doesn't know what this is, it is a PRX that allows you to listen to your saved music anytime. That is right, including IN GAME.

Cpasjuste has recently ported the Music PRX plugin to custom firmware 3.90 M33. Enjoy your own MP3s and atrac3 files straight from your memory stick’s MUSIC directory. Cpasjuste also notes,

“this has been tested on a 3.90 M33-3 slim PSP, WITHOUT the fatmsmod patch applied.”

If you are using a lower firmware please upgrade.

Mathieulh talks about CFW 3.93 & 4.0 M33
Well most of what mathieulh has stated was in French (apparently a native language for him). So since it was another language besides English I am going to copy and paste what translations I have seen around the web. The most common translation is this
:"The M33 team did not have any hand in making the latest CFW (that is, 3.93), and that he finds the idea to implement access to recovery directly via the VSH a pretty cool one. So, kudos to the unnamed developer!

Well, if Team M33 didn't make CFW 3.93, then when are they going to bust out one of theirs? Mathieulh says that the way things look, the current custom firmware will be all that we need until 4.0 rolls along - so until that fateful firmware comes, there is no scheduled release from Team M33. A reason for this is because Sony hasn't been quite generous with the new stuff coming from every firmware, which makes the effort of making a new custom one a bit pointless."
His statement (as translated by transce08):

Custom Firmware 3.93 released + 1.50 kernel... Not M33???

What you have heard is right, it is not DAX. Instead, it is based off of DAX's work. It is still unknown who is the creator of this firmware. This time, it's no patch, it's the real thing. This release includes in-XMB recovery.

Changes:

Uses the 3.93 kernel

Same ol' same ol' custom firmware features.

Ability to use the normal recovery inside the XMB by pressing the HOME button:

  • When in the recovery, the system is suspended, and you can change all options directly.
  • All options work immediately, there is no need to reboot
  • Ability to make a Pandora battery from the recovery, read and restore the EEPROM, etc. Providing that the motherboard supports it.
  • Ability to hide the MAC address in System Information, if you do so, the MAC will show visually as all 0’s.
  • Ability to save the savegames in normal format, rather then encrypted (only functions in March33 and Sony NP9960 mode).
  • The native 3.93 pops isn’t as good as the previous pops; therefore hopefully the popsloader will get updated to support 3.93.

1.50 Kernel:

  • Install kernel 1.50 on a PSP Fat. To use the 1.50 kernel for an application, you will DEFINATELY need to put the kernel to 1.50, even if the application is in the GAME150 directory. If you change the kernel in VSH Recovery, you’ll still need a reboot.
  • The new recovery has these two asked features:
    • Suspend device
    • Shutdown device

Keep in mind that a just newly release CFW is like a box of chocolates, you never know watcha' gunnu get! It's up to you and you only if you want to take the risk and upgrade.

WARNING!!!

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PSP UNATTENDED WHILE DOING THIS UPDATE, YOU WILL NEED TO PRESS "X" RIGHT AFTER THE SONY INSTALLER IS OVER OR ELSE YOU WILL GET A BRICK!

Daedalus R14 beta news

R14's new menu

PSP users that also love their Nintendo 64 have been using Daedalus for some time. While riddled with minor bugs and issues that rendered some games unplayable, games like Super Mario 64 functioned well on the emulator. R14, the next release, currently in it's beta stages, has numerous new features and fixes made to improve functionality.

Changelog:

  • Dynarec Stack Optimisation = small speedup (located in the Rom Preferences)
  • Highlight Inexact Blend Modes = replaces inexact blend modes with a placeholder texture (located in Global Settings)
  • VFPU TnL = acceleration of vertex transform and lighting / small speedup (located in Global Settings)
  • Clear Fragment Cache = clears the contents of the dynarec fragment cache / do this before loading a new game to avoid freezes and such (located after pausing a rom, works great too)
  • Font in GUI has been altered

  • The beta is too unstable to be released yet, but the future looks promising for N64 players. Stick around for more information on the application and it's release. [source: QJ.net]

    3.90M33-3 released

    PSP 3000 series?

Well how this person said it is perfect...so here it is.

"On its online instruction manuals, Sony Computer Entertainment has a few images for use as labels. There's one for the original PSP-1000 series (click here), and another for the current PSP-2000 series (click here). However, curiously there's also a placeholder image for the logical next-step: the PSP-3000 series (click here).

The availability of the PSP-3000 image on the PlayStation site shouldn't come as a signal that a redesign is impending -- it's clear that Sony plans on revising the hardware through its supposed ten year life cycle. However, it does seem to display a bit
too much forethought from the web designers that created and uploaded this image. How long will it take before we hear rumblings of yet another PSP redesign?"

So maybe a PSP Super Slim? This will bring out a lot of speculation to the PSP scene. The most "logical" thing I can think of is a PSP Phone.
