Guide to Custom XMB Sounds.
Here is what you will be needing:
1.Rco Editor 1.13 By ZiNgA BuRgA
2.MFAudio
3.A Decrypted "System_Plugin.rco" (I'm pretty they have to be 2.60 or lower, but it doesn't hurt to try)
4.A good Audio Converter, I suggest the Ease Audio Converter.
One last warning.
THIS TUTORIAL WILL HAVE YOU DIGGING AROUND YOUR FLASH, THIS IS POTENTIALY DANGEROUS IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL
Alright now we can begin.
Step 1:
Get your raw sound files. The internet is a beautiful thing. Try to find sounds that are 1 to 1 and a half seconds long.
Step 2:
Time to get anal. For your sounds to work we need a WAV file that has these specifications:
The Frequency must be 44 kHz (or 44,100 Hz), and the Rate must be 16Bit.
If you already have files that meet these specifications, then please move to Step 3
For those of you still here, we need to get your file to the correct format. To do this we will need the help of the audio converter.
This is a very simple process (if you are using Ease Audio Converter). Simply drag-n-drop the desired file(s) into the wide gaping space. Then select the output File format (For this tutorial it will need to be "WAV"). Now click on the "Settings" button, make sure the WAV is using these specs:
you have to select Custom Quality to change all these aspects
Now select an output directory and click "Start"
Viola go to the output directory to pick up your newly converted files!
Step 3:
Now to get the final file for use.
Now run the MFAudio application and select the newly made WAV file, again check for the Frequency and Rate (or "Samples"):
Now go down to the "Output File" section and change the format to VAG. Now Select an output location and click "Process!"
Check out your new VAG file!
Step 4:
Now for the tricky part.
Now you need your "System_Plugin.rco" and the Rco Editor.
Run the Editor and drop the System_Plugin into the open area.
Scroll Down the list of icons until you see these:
These are the sound effect files. To replace them you must highlight one file and click the "Replace" button and then select a VAG file you have created.
Here is a quick rundown of what each file name represents:
[VAG]snd_cursor- This sound is the normal click sound you hear when you move around your XMB with the D-Pad.
[VAG]snd_decide- This sound is used when you click into to something, like a XMB menu.
[VAG]snd_cancel- This sound is used when you click back out of a menu or file.
[VAG]snd_category_decide- I currently don't know what this one does.
[VAG]snd_option- This sound is used when you press triangle and bring up the option menu.
[VAG]snd_error- This sound is used when you encounter any error in the XMB.
[VAG]snd_system_ok- This sound is used when you have successfully done something, like saving a game.
[VAG]snd_system_ng- This sound is used when you try to access something that you don't have access to.
After you are done replacing all the files you like, simply exit out of the program and then flash the file into the PSP's resource folder("X:/vsh/resouce")
Step 5:
Pat yourself on the back! You earned it. Not only did you take the time to read this entire tutorial, and had to listen to my donkey, but you now have awesome custom sounds on your XMB!
Remember, don't flash unless you are aware of how dangerous it is!
Passion,Joy,Sorrow,Pain and tears.
They will all be pabulum of your life.
