Rule #7 has been amended - open discussion

We, the staff, have agreed to change rule #7 to more accurately reflect exactly what level of "piracy talk" we will allow on PSPBrew. We have agreed that we should allow the discussion of torrent programs, even as far as how to properly configure them and what-not, but we will not allow open-ended discussion for how to obtain torrent files or allow links to torrent sites where downloads of torrents themselves are available.

Rule #7 now reads:

7. Piracy and/or any links to piracy are strictly prohibited. By doing this, your account will be subject to deletion/suspension as the staff views fit. Discussion of torrent programs is allowed, and links to official download sites for torrent programs is acceptable, but discussion of where to obtain pirated commercial games, movies, or torrents themselves, will not be tolerated.

For example, a popular program to download torrents with is a handy program called "utorrent". Now, it's fine to discuss utorrent, and it's also ok to say that you can download utorrent here -> http://www.utorrent.com/ <- HOWEVER, It is not ok to discuss where to download torrent files that are, in turn, downloaded via the torrent program.

We acknowledge that this is a bit of a change, and you are welcome to share what you think about this new amendment in this thread. Good, or bad, we appreciate any constructive criticism about this new decision.

Well yea, you can't talk about where to get them. But the rules said you can't talk about it at all, now you can talk about the bit torrent clients now instead of saying them scrambled in uppercase words *cough cough*.

That's exactly what the amendment is making an attempt to do - give people a better idea of how things work. I'm glad you guys are open to the change. I figured this should be posted so that people actually know of the amendment. Every now and then we may tweak a rule a bit, but because this gives the average joe more opportunities on the forum, I figured that you guys should know. Also, please take note that that allowing more open discussion of torrents also brings a slight burden of responsibility on the average forum member as well. Don't abuse this amendment because if it is abused, it may have to be revised to be more strict.

I think this has been allowed here for quite some time, we just never allowed people to link sites to
something illegal.

So either way this was already applied, because the discussion of p2p torrent programs (Like limewire for example)
were never illegal since they are public to the internet, and has been licensed to be legally used.

Not saying this should've never been brought up, just my 2 cents.

Warnings, yes. That's all well and good. Just remember that it isn't only against our forum rules - it's against the law, therefor, punishment may be more severe depending on what is going on.

We can do everything from taking away avatar/ signature privileges, to banning or deleting an account. To be honest, I expect the possibility of a few bans because of this, but they won't be permanent.
