AhMan is at it again to make your Sony PlayStation Portable better then ever. Not long after the release of iR Shell v3.8, AhMan tracked down common bugs and came up with a quick fix. This version 3.81 clears up incompatibility issues and removes several known bugs.

Here's the changelog:

Fixed a critical bug in the iR Shell firmware patch which results in unable to launch UMD in XMB and also causes various incompatibility issues with other homebrew apps & seplugins. Just apply the new patch and all issues will be resolved.

Fixed a bug in Contact Menu which wouldn't allow you to choose "Select" or "Start" menu items.

Those who grabbed iR Shell v3.8 only need to download a small file loaded with update files. For everyone else, AhMan provided a full download of v3.81 with all the greatness of iR Shell intact. Minus the bugs, of course.
IR Shell 3.8

Thats right guys, the new version of IR Shell has been released.

For those who dont know what this little app is. It is great app for unlocking the full power of the PSP, adding tons of features, from using the PSP to control your TV and DVD player, to MP3 alarms. This is a most have app for all homebrew users.

Any way there is a ton of new features, as well as a lot of bug fixes. And the best part is that it also runs of the PSP slim! Along with these other host of features from the change log:

* Supports the latest M33 firmwares across both Phat & Slim. Slim users can choose among 3.60M33, 3.71M33-1 to 3.71M33-3.
* PSOne 2-Player Adhoc Support.
* Introduces a new Context Menu System. Functions (plugins) under context menu will always be available to all file types, similar to the right mouse menu click under Windows.
* Added a new Multi-tasking PRX Plugin System. This allows user written PRX Plugins for iR Shell to multi-task with another game/app. The included PRX HTML/Text Viewer developed by korDen allows you to view HTML & Text documents while playing games or homebrews..
* With the help from Dark_AleX, support to M33 & NP9660 No UMD Modes have been added. NetHostFS & UsbHostFS are also available for the No UMD modes.
* Added support to the latest Popsloader for 3.71M33-3 by Dark_AleX.
* Allow random start of MP3 for the alarm clock function, so you'll be greeted with different tunes each morning.
* Added the options to put your PSP to auto-sleep while idle to save battery.
* Allows you to press Hot-Key to turn off/on all LEDs. The annonying memory stick or WiFi LEDs will no longer distract you from watching your favorite video/movie.
* Support TV-Out for Slim via component cable.
* Added the display of volume bar for PSP main volume in iR Shell.
* plus numerous bug fixes.

Now something to note is that all the features that work on the fat PSP, should also work on the slim (With the exception of the Infra-Red remote)

With that said give this great app a try.

Thanks to forum member blackmage for the heads up!

Download: IR Shell 3.8

That's right, after "leaving" the scene what would seem like countless times, we again find that he will NOT be leaving this time either.

This is great news for all of us who use custom firmwares from the M33 team.

This new was posted at lan.st by user Mathieulh, and here is what he had to say:

"Not quite a surprise but I rather make it official, after much reflexion Alex decided to go on with the M33 project, although you should not expect as regular updates as there used to be, for instance the M33 will be updated to future kernels only when believed necessary, thus no 3.72M33 planned (we are waiting on future official firmwares and keep improving M33's features from now on.)
About the releases you should either check the m33 website, exophase.com, the maxconsole forums, Dark_Alex's website or the lan.st forums, or any other news site you see fit (although the previous ones are likely the ones that are getting update the sooner)

If you have any improvements idea feel free to notice us about those, also if you wish to participate actively in M33 and wish to share code to the project, you shall allways contact us (or at least me by mail at mathieulh@gmail.com (checked daily) if you have any trouble in contacting Alex)

Cheers"

Well this is great new for the homebrew scene, and hopfully we will be able to see some more great M33 custom firmwares some time in the near future!

Alright, we just got our hands on custom firmware 3.72 HX-2. And now it gets even better, yes its the 1.5 kernel add-on by developer Dark_Moon!

Ok guys, what this little tool does is help us unlock our PSP's even more. For those of you who dont know, a lot of homebrew is made in the 1.5 kernel, now when first installed 3.72 HX-2 DOESNT have that kernel. BUT thats where this comes in, its the kernel add-on!

Ok so here are some notes by Dark_Moon, and also how to install this.

Instructions :

When you have installed the firmware 3.71 m33 and the kernel addon download this file and open MS_ROOT. Then copy the PSP folder to the root of your memory stick.

Run the app, and press Square. Now the program will start to dump the addon. The dump is on ms0:/psp/game/update/km. Copy the km folder to your hd.

Install 3.72 HX. Later copy again the PSP folder that contain this app to the root of your memory stick.

Connect the USB (Flash0) and copy the backup done before in the root of the flash0. Run de app again and press X. It will copy the reboot150.prx and all will be done!

So there you go, now guys before you use this be warned that this can be unsafe to try if you are not careful. So read the instructions carefully and enjoy.

Download: 3.72 HX-2 kernel add-on

Yup guys thats right it seems that _HellDashX_ has giving us a update on his custom firmware.

There are a lot of changes that have been made this time around, the underclocking has gotten easier, and there are now two updaters to keep you from all the messing around with the PSP from last time. But thats not all, just take a look at the change log.

Contains the latest 3.71 M33-3 changes.

The file vshctrl.prx IS NOT the one from Dark_AleX,It's coded by me after reversing it 100%.

The exported functions from the vshctrl.prx are the same like the 3.71 M33-3 SDK,plus two more:

int vctrlVSHEraseIsoCache(con st char* path) -> Lets you erase the cache from an iso created by the CF.

If the parameter is empty "",it will erase the whole cache, not just from one iso.

The iso cache will not be created in the memorystick. It will be in the flash1.I made this function to test stuff faster.Gives a 0 if it deletes correctly else it will give -1.

int vctrlVSHMakeCFDirs() -> Lets you create the custom firmware directories,in case you dont have them(GAME150,GAME372...) in the memstick.Good if you have a pandora memstick and cant format the ms but dont want to create all directories by hand.

Only one vshctrl.prx for both psp models. In 3.71 M33-3 and others there was a vshctrl for the fat and an other one for the slim because they have slight changes. This new vshctrl will detect if you got SLIM or FAT.

Other non important changes in the code.

So with that said a few other thing to note, since with this update there are two updaters make sure you get them right.

The mini updater is for those of you who are at 3.72 HX-1, and the full updater if this is you first time using the firmware.

So make sure you use the right one, also its a good idea to read all notes that come with this firmware.

So with that said give _HellDashX_ a great big thanks and enjoy.

Download: 3.72 HX-2

Daedalus R13 Released!

Alright, like the title says its out! After a somewhat long wait we can now all enjoy this great emulator, and even with savesstates!

Here is the info about the release straight from StrnmNrmn's blog.

"The most significant new feature is savestate support. You can now save your progress at any point, via the Pause Menu (accessed through hitting the Select button). Savestates are written out to the memory stick, and consume around a megabyte per slot. You can load up a savestate at any time from the Pause Menu, or via the front end (hit the right shoulder button to swap from the rom list to the savestate list.)

Other than savestates, the most significant change in R13 is a number of optimisations to the dynarec core which should give a 10-20% speedup depending on the title being played. I've tested these optimisations as much as I can, but if you find that roms which worked with R12 are now broken, try disabling 'dynamic recompilation' and/or 'dynarec stack optimisation' from the rom's preferences screen.

I haven't looked at compatibility at all in R13, so it's unlikely that any roms will have started working in R13.

I'm interested to hear your feedback on both of these features. Let me know if you have any problems with savestates, or if you've found roms are no longer working in R13.

Yes, everyone knows how to make a Pandora battery by now. Have you ever thought of making the BATTERY without a second psp? Well, here is the way to do it.

First go out and buy yourself another battery. This is because after you do this your battery will not work anymore. Make sure your new battery says "MADE IN CHINA" since sony is now shipping "un-pandorable" making batterys that dont allow you to convert it.

Next make sure you have some soldering knowledge, and you are on your way.

Take a look at these pictures and with one soldering of a wire you have now made a Pandora BATTERY without the need of another psp.

PSP FAT BATTERY

PSP Slim Battery

Thanks to Darkpacman77 on this site for the idea and thanks to psp-hacks for giving this information.

***you don't need a second PSP to make the memory stick correctly AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A CARD READER for your computer.

Firmware 3.71 M33-2 (bug fix)

Our forum friend, eckounltd is on the ball lately. Recently he informed us of a bug fix for custom firmware 3.71 M33. Yes, Dark_AleX is the one behind it still... so let's hope the rumors of him leaving begin to fade away. Anyways, this bug fix addresses a few important things. To be a jerk, I'll just repeat, word-for-word, what psp-hacks has to say.

There was a bug that caused corruption when writing files of more than 32256 bytes using usb flash. The bug has been corrected, and now the implementation is as reliable as it was when it was based on 1.50 kernel. (tested with a full restoration of a dump)

Psp Slim: a functionality to let the charge of battery when connecting a usb cable has been added. This feature is based on Noobz plugin code. By default is not enabled, you can enable it in recovery. Note that the charge of battery may be delayed some seconds since the moment you plug the cable.

After installing this update, program at /PSP/GAME/UPDATE will always be executed on 3.71 kernel, despite configuration.

VSHMenu: vshmenu will not be executed when onscreen keyboard is active, to avoid the lost of the select button function in the keyboard. An option to reset the psp has been added.

VSH plugins are not longer executed anymore in recovery mode, that was the cause of pseudo-bricks.

Also, a bug that sometimes crashes the PSP upon coming out of sleep mode has also been fixed. Be warned though, two bugs still exist - those, however, are Sony's fault. It's a little illegal to edit Sony's code to fix their error, so I expect that this will be fixed officially by Sony with a new firmware release, but you never know. Download this by clicking the link below, which was uploaded by eckounltd .

Download: Custom Firmware M33-2

Earlier today, forum member Eckounltd, was eager to let us know that Dark_AleX has released his firmware 1.50 patch for custom firmware 3.71. Now, this version is only for FAT PSP units, but don't worry too much slim owners, you can always wait for developers to port over their projects or you can use the new eloader. On a more unfortunate note, this is all that was promised from the hacking legend, Dark_AleX, so this may be his last work.. but until we know for sure, happy homebrewing!

Download: Click here

I'm sure you're all familiar with Pandora's Battery by now, well this new installment of Dark AleX's work is based off of the same thing. The catch? - it works on both slim PSP units as well as the fat PSP units. At the current moment, you are free to brick any PSP you want, and still be able to recover it. Truly groundbreaking. Kudos to Dark AleX!

This will bring your PSP's firmware version to 3.71. That's right. Us here at PSPBrew are just as shocked as anyone else. Lately we've seen a side of Sony that we haven't seen in the past. Sony has begun to slowly morph into a company that tries to adhere to what PSP owners REALLY want. First the PS1 emulator, then the various fixes that the Slim addresses, next comes downloadable custom themes, and now Sony has gone so far as to release their own tool for Custom XMB Themes! If you're interested, check out the screenshot below, or better yet, download the tool from the link provided under the picture and make sure to share your creations with us in our new custom XMB forums!

Download: Sony XMB Custom Theme Maker

Anti-Pandora?

Yes folks, it appears that Sony is, yet again, wisening up to the amazing abilities of the hackers. As many people may have already guessed, Sony’s official PSP-110 battery is already being shipped around. The battery is still exactly that - a battery, only it appears that Sony has made the new line of batteries have "anti-pandora" security features. There's still hope that the PSP will see a new version of the Pandora's Battery hack in the future, but for now at least, it is hindered. If you're still looking to get your hands on a second battery for Pandora's Battery, maybe getting a new, higher capacity battery for normal use is a better option (using your old battery for Pandora's Battery). It is known that there are certain batteries that are made by third-parties that are still capable of the Pandora's Battery hack... so that may also be an option as well. It is unknown at this time if those batteries are going to be upgraded as well or not. Stay tuned, and if we learn anything further - you'll learn along with us.

Yes, you've also read correctly...Team M33 is infact Dark_Alex. Rumor has spread rampant about "who figured it out first", but on the brew, our own forum member, bkfraiders7, was the member who brought this to light. Aparently for this release youll need to be at 3.52 M33-3 or 3.52 M33-4 on the fat PSP's or 3.60 M33 on the slim PSP's before being able to upgrade to the 3.71 custom firmware. Now that we have that out of the way, lets get into the details of this release...

3.71 M33 by M33=Dark_AleX

Changes in 3.71 M33:

- Now uses 3.71
- VSH Menu is not longer launched using HOME key, but using SELECT now. This is to not
interfere with the XMB function of home, which is now more useful in this firmware.
- Psp Slim: umdcache was allocating memory even when homebrew was launched, wasting
memory that homebrew programs may want to use. Now umdcache module is stopped before
it can allocate any memory, only in the case homebrew is launched.

Also, memory is unprotected for user memory usage by M33 core (only when homebrew is launched).
Developer, for a sample of how to use the extra memory, see the extra ram sample of the M33 sdk.

- Both version boot now from 3.XX ipl, and are independent of 1.50.

The main installer will not install 1.50 kernel anymore.
A 1.50 kernel addon for 3.71 M33 that will install inside 3.71 M33 will be released in a
few days (for fat only)

Note: due to some changes in kernel nids by Sony, you can expect a lot of kernel plugins not working anymore.
Programmers: refer to the sdk readme for details.

As always, make sure to follow the instructions that come with this package and take notice to its warnings as neither I or any members of pspbrew.com will take responsibility for your misfortunes.

- Download

I know it's been a while, but StrmnNrmn sure hasn't forgot about our Nintendo 64 emulation needs. In fact, this time around, he's even added in an extra feature for us to use. How does savestate support sound? Yea, sounds darn good. StrmnNrmn discusses, in his blog , that he's already implemented the feature and that he needs to work on the user interface a little bit before it's released. He also says that he's excited about having savestate support from a developer's point-of-view, as it will allow him to skip intro screens and work on other issues in a more timely manner. As far as anyone can tell, that's pretty much the main feature of this next release. He does say that there's, "a number of additional optimisations" that he wants to work on before releasing R13. Release date? - September 29th, or shortly after.

XMB Boot Loader for Pandora's Battery

BOOSTER, the creator of the famed DevHook program and advancements in custom firmware, has released a handy little tool for those Pandora's Battery junkies out there.

With this new tool, you will be able to use a battery that you've converted to be used as a Pandora's Battery, as the primary battery. Before, trying to power a PSP unit on with the Pandora's Battery inserted was a joke. You weren't able to power the PSP without help from the AC cord. Now, what this little tool does, is write an IPL to the memory stick pro duo which allows the XMB to be booted into properly without having to revert the Pandora's Battery back to a normal battery. Useful? - yes, and also no. No because the battery will only work in your PSP with YOUR memory stick pro duo... but that may also be a good thing as well. Have a little brother or sister that bother you and try to use your PSP all of the time? Not a problem! Just take out your memory stick from the PSP and that sucker won't even turn on! Of course, it may be a bit of a hassle, but for those of you that may want to stick with your Pandora's Battery, at least now you have another option.

It's important to note that you should not install this on a memory stick that you used during the creation of the "magic memory stick". Also, 32mb memory sticks are not compatible with this. Make sure to READ ALL DOCUMENTATION CAREFULLY before installing this tool. Since we don't have this in our downloads section yet, just pick it up at any neighboring PSP hacking website.

Fanjita Leaves PSP Homebrew Scene.

The coder known as Fanjita, recently affiliated with team Noobz, has decided to step down from the PSP homebrew scene.

As read here , Fanjita is leaving for a few reasons. The main reason, as one would assume, is that a bond of trust between Fanjita and his partners was broken before the release of Pandora's Battery. No word is out as to who is responsible for the "betrayal of trust" that Fanjita describes in his "rant". Furthermore, he is leaving for more personal reasons. If you've been following his more personal life, you should know that he is entering into the realm of fatherhood and not only that, but he has a couple projects that he'd like to finish up and then be through with the PSP scene. Apparently, Fanjita is finishing up those last projects and then is leaving the homebrew scene for good.

We at PSPBrew would like to thank and also congratulate Fanjita on his various projects which enhanced the homebrew experience for thousands of PSP users worldwide. Fanjita is most well-known for his hand in the creation of the e-loader which enabled homebrew for those 2.xx users who hadn't previously had it, as well as his genius in the aid of the Pandora's Battery project. Farewell Fanjita, you will be missed.

Noobz, Team C&D Release PSP Unbricker

This is a monumental day for the homebrew community as Team Noobz and Team C&D have released a program entitled "Pandora's Battery" which allows you to unbrick a psp. What this program does is turn your normal PSP battery into a "Jigkick Battery" and a regular 256mb memory stick pro duo into a "Magic Stick". These are the tools Sony themselves use to unbrick PSP's. Before you start though, you'll probably want to use a spare battery and a 256mb memory stick pro duo for this because you wont be able to use them for normal gameplay after the conversion has been completed. Here's some of the notes and restrictions packaged in the readme...

NOTES AND RESTRICTIONS

- The firmware in the Memory Stick is not a full 1.50, but a minimal
subset. Therefore, not all applications (such as flashers, or
 recovery apps) will load.

- Only Memory Stick Pro Duo are compatible. Memory Stick Duo
(e.g. 32MB sticks) are not supported.

- The IDStorage cannot be totally restored, as there is no known way
 to regenerate it properly.

- It is strongly RECOMMENDED to make a flash dump of the PSP before
 any downgrading operation.

- There might be a BSOD at the end of the downgrade. This is normal,
and happens on the standard downgraders.

- All hardware revisions known at this day are supported.

- This release contains no Sony-copyrighted material. All required
Sony data is generated from the v1.50 update files.

Many thanks to...

- All work done by the Prometheus team aka Team C+D:

 Adrahil (VoidPointer)
 Booster
 Cswindle (Caretaker)
 Dark_AleX (Malyot)
 Ditlew
 Fanjita (FullerMonty)
 Joek2100 (CosmicOverSoul)
 Jim
 Mathieulh (WiseFellow)
 Nem (h1ckeyph0rce)
 Psp250
 Skylark
 TyRaNiD (bockscar)

- With thanks to everyone who has contributed to the PSPSDK, without which
 nothing would have been possible.

For further information and instructions on how to use this program refer to the readme file included in the download.

- Download

- Easy Installer

- Installation Tutorial

Anonymous D states, to get the game working you need to "Place folder in psp/game150 or psp/game with 1.50 as you game kernel. 1.5 users will need to kxploit the eboot." Also, here are the controls so you don't spend countless minutes wondering what to do:

d pad = move hand

triangle = exit

x = grab or confirm

circle = increase hand speed

square = decrease hand speed

L = increase console speed

R = decrease console speed

Also, if you want to get some extra points, you can decrease the hand speed or increase the console speed.

McZonk just released his Beta 2 version of the famous Quake 2 port for PSP hot off the press. Also like Beta 1, Beta 2 was more focused on multiplayer then on single player. Here is a list of changes according to McZonk:

--.pak File Support: This will decrease the copy to memory stick rapidly. It is still very buggy and slow. During the game it is very nice even if not all sound data is loaded so far.

--Clipping: Even if clipping is not slow at the moment, there is a lot of potential to make it faster, by using the vfpu as example. Since I have an algorithm I am happy with, I can now start to optimize the speed.

--Flipscreen Support: You can set gu_flipscreen 1 in the console to turn around the psp viewing by 180 degrees. So you can hold the psp upside down. I implemented this because I want to make Quake 2 as configurable as possible.

--Master Server: I am trying this with my beta testers, but it is still not stable enough to use. Becus25 just released his latest version of 3.40IE. Basically 3.40IE is just an addon to 3.40OE but with a few improvements. Such as two recovery menu's. Here is a list of features from the developer:

You have two recovery menu's.

On the second recovery menu (of IE), you can change the speed of CPU, and toggle USB mode for ms0, flash 0/1/2.

Also you can enable another autoboot located at pspgamebooteboot.pbp and do more things then the OE recovery menu.

I did modify the above list from the original list somewhat, for the sake of correct english. The developer also stated that, in order to run the IE recovery menu, you need to enable the autoboot feature in the OE recovery menu. Then power off the PSP, and turn it on from a coldboot while holding the start button. Note: You need 3.40OE-A previously installed in order to install this.

Well it seems that Art has released another version of his wonderful app "Time Baby". Just incase you don't know what this app does, it's an enlarged clock/alarm clock. Yea awesome app right? Well according to the developer, you are able to make your psp "tell" you the time just by the press of a single button. But the biggest jump to v4 is that the user is able to set the alarm, and the alarm will actualyl go off while the psp is suspended or in standby mode. So now the user no longer needs to worry about horrible battery consumption. So here are the changes:

Implemented adrahil's Alarm Library to handle alarm where the PSP is either suspended, or in standby.

Implemented a moon phase calculator with graphic moon display accurate to one segment.

Removed Mikmod Sound Library, and implemented 6AM Sample Player to achieve CD quality sound.

Implemented a time announcement mode where the time is announced every minute.

Speech routine is no longer timer based. Samples are played end to end for fluid sounding speech.

Underclocked PSP unit to 135/111/1 for battery conservation while used with the power on.

Removed lap counter (bean counter) feature that was present from version 2.

Images are now present in the executable, and are loaded from memory at program startup.

Various other graphics fixes and improvements including calender display.

Well since I know how much you all love alarm clock's I will give you the download links too ;).

Download via Rapidshare: Time Baby v4

Download via Megaupload: Time Baby v4

iPSP v1.10

Recently hombrew developer ChrisTek released a new version of his portal "iPSP". iPSP is a great substitute to use instead of the very costly iPhone. I know what your thinking, it's just another stupid portal. Actually, this is one of the best portal's I have seen for sure. This portal is a "copy" of the new and popular iPhone's interface. Some even say this portal is just as good as pspWxp, or even better. With it's nice sleek interface, along with very useful tools, I am sure this portal will become very popular soon. Ok, enough of me talking, here is a list of some important tools included in the very realistic portal:

-Digg: Easy way to arrive at the popular site digg.com

-Lock: Eye candy sweetness. This app enables the user to start a, often rather sexy, screensaver to show off the brilliant psp screen.

-Browser: An obvious internet browser dubbed "Expedition". Includes tabs and bookmarks.

-Messengers: Your gateway to messengers provided by eBuddy.

-Photos: An app that displays up to 10 photo's in 5 second intervals, similar to a slideshow.

-Weather: Weather forcast for our meteorologist members.

-Games: Easy way to access and play some flash games included with iPSP.

-Mail: Gateway to most email providers such as aol, msn, and yahoo.

-Vipr Online: Your way to access Vipr Online Media Service, which is currently still in development.

And I believe the rest are self-explanitory. Also included in v1.10 is an iPod service which allows the user to play music via PSPTunes, which is also included in the installation package, and a rather enjoyed update to the out-of-memory issue that v1.0 was faced with. Last but not least, read the readme included before you asks lots of questions. Note: This app is compatible with any official/custom firmware that has the web browser available to it, but in order to use the games, you need Official firmware/Custom firmware 2.71 or higher.

Website: iPSPv1.10

Download: Easy Installer | Zip Archive

Jackass The Game

With this title set to release September 25 for the PSP and PS2, you can expect that the usual suspects; Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, and Wee Man, will be up to their old bag of nonsense and eager to take any painful stunts you can throw at them.

It is said to feature 35 stunts which will make up 7 virtual episodes so if you do the math thats 5 stunts per episode. A few of the many stunts will be San Fran Trash Can, where you'll be steering your favourite jackass character through traffic, around pedestrians and other obstacles as you go flying down the hills of San Francisco in a trash can. Suburban Catapult, where you'll be launching these crazy guys from a human slingshot into a nearby neighbourhood or construction site. If that's not enough for one day, you can try Golf Rally, where you'll be using a golf cart as your weapon of choice to terrorize the golf course and other scenery.

Sounds like fun to me. Heck, who doesn't love driving wrecklessly, demolishing golf courses, terrorizing neighbourhoods, and launching a buddy through the air. It's the dream of a teenager and even the child in some of us adults. To sum it up, it's a typical game to complete the Jackass series.
